The Tributary Project: A New Paradigm for Land Justice (Land Justice for Funders Series)

April 14 , 9:00 am 10:30 am PDT

Land justice is not peripheral to philanthropy—it is central. Who owns land, who stewards it, who benefits from it, and who decides how it’s used inherently shape environmental outcomes and community well-being.

Blue Sky Funders Forum is partnering with the  the Highstead Foundation, the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation, RESIST!, and the Maine Climate and Environmental Funders Network on a new webinar series highlighting successful examples and practical funding strategies in land justice, featuring bold funders who are integrating land justice into their portfolios and the visionary partners with whom they work.

Join us on April 14th for the first webinar in this series, The Tributary Project: A New Paradigm for Land Justice, where we’ll explore the funding strategies, partnerships, and coordination required to support one of the largest private land returns in U.S. history—a prime example of community vision, control, and ownership.

You’ll leave with:

  • Inspiration to start or deepen land justice approaches in your grantmaking strategy
  • Ideas for collaborative pathways that make land return at scale possible
  • New peer connections to continue exploring concrete opportunities for aligned and collective philanthropic action

Panelists

  • Darren J. Ranco, PhD, Citizen, Penobscot Nation, Executive Director of the Wabanaki Commission on Land and Stewardship, Professor of Anthropology and Chair of Native American Programs and Coordinator of Native American Research, University of Maine
  • Gabriela Alcalde, MPH, DrPH, Executive Director, Sewall Foundation
  • Shannon Hill, Wabanaki Commission on Land and Stewardship Member and Environmental Director for the Mi’kmaq Nation
  • Otto Muller, Core Staff Member on Resourcing, First Light

Live webinars in this series are open to funders only to allow for peer-to-peer relationship-building and candid small-group discussion. We welcome all funders interested in this work, regardless of prior investment or experience. Registration is required for each session.

Ahead of this session, we highly encourage you to read Making the Case: Land Justice Frameworks for Connections to Nature (A Resource for the Land Justice for Funders Series), where we provide an introductory grounding in land justice and introduce you to the key ideas you’ll need for the live sessions.
