EARTHSEED Film Screening with the People’s Kitchen Collective

Date: October 10, 2024
Time: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: David Brower Center, 2150 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA 94704

We are pleased to present a special screening of EARTHSEED: A People’s Journey of Radical Hospitality. This powerful documentary, presented by the People’s Kitchen Collective, explores models for survival and collective futures inspired by Octavia Butler’s Parables, the Black Panther Party, and the global south diaspora. Director Fox Nakai and creator Jocelyn Jackson will be present for discussions, and delicious snacks and drinks will be served at 5pm.

  • Explore themes of land, power and justice as they relate to how we connect people to nature, the outdoors and environmental education — particularly people from BIPOC or otherwise historically marginalized communities.
  • Inspire philanthropy to continue or begin funding innovative cultural work that changes the narrative about how people connect to nature and the outdoors, such as those projects featured in Earth Seed.

Health, Safety, & Accessibility

COVID-19 Protocols

Blue Sky is committed to gathering our community safely amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. To best protect everyone involved, we will implement the following health and safety measures:

  • Daily Testing: Attendees must test daily to participate. Each day, please provide a photo of your negative test result before entering our meeting spaces and you will receive a sticker verifying your negative result. We encourage you to bring your own antigen tests, but we will also have tests available if needed.
  • Positive Test Protocol: If you test positive for COVID-19, or show symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing), please stay home and do not attend the convening. Positive cases discovered upon arrival or during the event unfortunately will not be allowed entry. Please follow CDC guidelines for isolation and quarantine. Attendees are responsible for expenses related to a positive test, including isolation and quarantine costs.
  • Vaccinations and Masking: We strongly encourage all attendees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We recommend wearing masks indoors, except when eating or presenting. Masks will be required in the theatre during the film screening on Thursday, October 10. Please bring your own masks; a limited supply will be available onsite.
  • Notification: If you test positive for COVID-19 during or immediately following the Blue Sky convening, please notify Berkeley Bryant.
